Step 1:  Remove the Furniture From the Room

Step 2:  Sanding the Floor

You must sand the floor with an orbital sander, and use lighter grit abrasive on every pass. After successful four grit passes, you must sweep and vacuum clean the hardwood floor.

Step 3: Cleaning the Floor:

Having sanded the floor, you must clean the hardwood floor with a heavy-duty shop vac and dampening rags. You may also use a vacuum cleaner and broom during the clean-up. Entire floor must be clean before you apply the finish.

You must clean the floor with microfiber cloth too, so that no dust and dirt remains dispersed on the floor.

Step 4: Staining the Hardwood Floor

Having sanded and cleaned the hardwood floor, it is time to stain the hardwood floor.

You must choose the stain of your choice. There are different types of stains available in the market such as water or oil-based polyurethane, varnish, wax, shellac finish etc. You will apply two coats of the finish. At a time, you must only paint a two-foot section and repeat it on the entire surface.

Step 5: Topping the Surface

You must apply the glossy finish on the top of the surface. The finish will act as a protective layer for the hardwood floor. You may use polyurethane sealer for the top-layer of the surface.
